Date and batch code print confirmation application

Application Details

The customer was using a simple “blob” sensor to detect that a date and batch code had been applied to a pharmaceutical label.

This sensor basically only detects that a black area is present on the packaging. This may be smudged print, incorrect characters or characters may be missing. Bad print can be passed as a good product.

Vision systems are available with OCR (optical character recognition) to confirm the print but these are generally costly and can be challenging to integrate into existing machines.
